This pair of gilded pagoda trays is made of wood, gold leaves and mother-of-pearl chips.Pagoda trays such as these are very rare because of their form. The exchange of wedding gifts was a very lavish affair for wealthy Peranakan families, who would have had a grand procession of servants bearing trays of symbolic gifts to be exchanged between the two families. These trays were probably used to store wedding jewellery.
