This bowl is decorated in 'famille rose', or fencai 粉彩 (literally ‘pink colour’) style, in which pink enamel dominates. The pink hue was achieved by mixing translucent pink enamel with opaque white enamel. Other enamels, such as white, yellow, red, blue and green, are used on the wide array of floral sprays and floral motifs that decorate the bowl. Decorative floral sprays are reminiscent of the blue and white style of the Yuan (1279-1368) and early Ming (1368-1644) large dishes, except that, here, the flowers are executed in various colours. The base has a four character Jiaqing reign mark in seal script.
