Nonyas (Peranakan women) were fond of jewellery, which was worn as a display of wealth especially on ceremonial occasions, such as this pendant, which was part of a set of two pendants. Some of the most exquisite jewellery was for use during the Peranakan wedding ceremony. Aside from rings, their accessories include necklaces, bracelets, anklets, earrings, belts and buckles, 'kerosang' (set of brooches on blouse) and hairpins.
