This covered cosmetic box features a peony spray on the lid. Similar types of boxes were found in Sumatra and other parts of Southeast Asia. This was a fairly common item produced in Longquan kilns in China, in the Zhejiang province. Longquan celadons were produced in a myriad of forms, and were hugely popular in both the domestic and overseas markets. Celadon is a generic French term for wares that derived their green-tone from glazes that were rich in naturally occurring iron-oxide. It encompasses the green stoneware of Yue, Yaozhou and Longquan kilns in China.
