These small, rectangular panels of marble are carved with an intricate and stylized floral motif twisted in a figure-of-eight. They seem to be the ends of a long and continuous railing bearing repetitive motifs. Similar decoration can be observed on the borders of the Mughal paintings and carpets from the Akbari period onwards during the Mughal (15th-17th centuries) period. These marble screens serve as railings for balconies as well as terraces.
