Pair of bracelets

Bracelets and bangles were known to the Peranakans as 'gelang tangan' in baba Malay. Nonyas (Peranakan women) were fond of jewellery, which was worn as a display of wealth especially on ceremonial occasions. Some of the most exquisite jewellery was for use during the Peranakan wedding ceremony. Aside from bracelets, their accessories include anklets, pendants, earrings, belts and buckles, rings, 'kerosang' (set of brooches on blouse) and hairpins.
