The calligraphy on this piece is carved in the reverse thus it could have been used as a stamp or to make metal plaques. The 'mihrab' arc encloses a roundel of circular calligraphy which features the Qur'anic verse, Surah al- Ikhlas (The Purity of Faith).Muslims around the world are unified by the Qur’an and as such, the holy word and the vehicle by which it is transmitted, that is calligraphy, remains an integral part of Muslim identity.
