The Tiger God is a folk guardian god who protects devotees from evil people. This Jiaozhi ceramics is essentially an enamelled, low-fired folk ceramics (minyao). It originates from the Guangdong province in south China and incorporates the influence of Qing export wares and Western enamels. The art of jiaozhi ceramics probably spread to Taiwan in the late Ming (1368-1644 BCE) and early Qing (1644-1911 BCE) dynasties, with the work of the pioneer master, Ye Wang, being the most famous. This figurine is made by Taiwan's top artist-sculptor, Lin Kuang-I. His works has a hint of naturalism and archaism due to his skilful manipulation of enamels and form.
