Born in 1970, Ketut Pande Taman graduated from Institut Seni Indonesia, Yogyakarta in 1998. In 1997, Taman’s work was selected as one of the ten winners of the Yayasan Seni Rupa Indonesia-Philip Morris Indonesian Art Awards. He has held solo and group exhibitions in Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Bali.Set against a greyish beige background, “Raja (King)” depicts a male human figure, wearing a crown. Newspaper articles can be seen beneath the layer of paint. The overall atmosphere created is one that seems ghostly and full of unease, as the face is distorted and the figure appears to be receding into the background.
