Born in Singapore in 1955, Jimmy Quek, who signs as Prabhakara, graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1973. He later enrolled in an art programme at the LASALLE College of the Arts in 1985. Influenced by the Buddhist philosophy, Quek sees and expresses the transience and the ever-changing nature of things in his work, while depicting Nature in the form of expansive landscapes or seascapes.
