Born in 1966 in Singapore, Jason Lim holds a Bachelor of Art (Hons) from Central St Martins College of Art and Design, U.K. (1992) and a Master of Fine Art from Royal Melbourne Institute Technology University, Australia (2003). Lim is a trained ceramicist and interdisciplinary artist.As a contemporary artist, Lim uses clay as a sculptor rather than as a potter engaging in the process he termed as 'ceramic object-making'. As part of a series of bowls, this porcelain work attest to Lim's concern with tactile surfaces through which he attempts to extend the art experience beyond the visual. Referred to as 'sculptured clay entities, the works exude a sense of precariousness and instability. They are 'anti-pretty' in their non-conformance to conventions dictated by functional wares with their lopsided-ness, protrusions and fragility. The artist describes the qualities of these works as “adverse to people friendliness.”
