Born in 1936, Thomas Yeo graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Landscape is a familiar theme in Yeo’s oeuvre. Similar to paintings like Morning Light and Foggy Autumn, Yeo has adopted a semi-abstract and representational style in this work, revealing his enduring fascination with nature and preoccupation with abstraction. The use of warm, earthly colours creates an atmosphere reflecting the title. Indeed, while the artist appears more concerned with evoking a sense of atmosphere and exploring a play of colours, two house-like structures near the top nevertheless anchor the painting in a recognisable reality.
