Born in Singapore in 1965, Boo Sze Yang received his formal fine art training from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), graduating in 1991, and obtained a Master in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts and Design in 2004. Since 1996, Boo has participated in more than 30 exhibitions, including five solo exhibitions. He has also won several awards in renowned art competitions such as the Distinction Award at the UOB Painting of the Year Competition in 1996 and 2002; and the Juror’s Choice at the Philip Morris Singapore-Asean Art Awards in 2003.Boo, whose works often highlight the concerns of the people and society, seeks to reflect what seems to be the top priority of many Singaporeans – to own a flat. ‘One Hundred Square Metres’, a semi-abstract work, refers to the floor area of his own flat at Jalan Teck Whye.
