The cultivation of wet and dry rice padi has been the economic mainstay of the Malays in the Malay Peninsula so much so that it has also influenced the various handicrafts that were produced. One of the main basketry products related to this was the rice bags. These bags were used to hold young rice and took many interesting forms and were decorated in several ways.
