Born in 1949 in Manila, Philippines, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya first won public acclaim as a printmaker. In 1981, she moved to painting and currently works with hybrid media and installations. She creates works that often allude to social conditions such as feminism and militarization. Belonging to an important group of Filipino artists whose works highlight women’s issues and the role women play in society, Cajipe-Endaya is especially interested in examining the position of the woman as a nurturer in her family.
