Born in Hanoi, Bui Suoi Hoa (B.1957) studied under Tran Luu Hau in Hanoi College of Fine Arts where she graduated in 1985. Currently living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, Hoa participated in the groundbreaking exhibition ‘Uncorked Soul’ in Hong Kong in 1991, along with Dang Xuan Hoa and other major Vietnamese artists. Since 1976, she has been exhibiting in Vietnam and internationally in the United Kingdom and France.Hoa’s bold and highly expressive brushstrokes can be seen in the barren background. The dark, sombre atmosphere and body language hint at the dire situation the protagonists are in.
