Born in Hanoi, Bui Suoi Hoa (B.1957) studied under Tran Luu Hau in Hanoi College of Fine Arts where she graduated in 1985. Currently living and working in Ho Chi Minh City, Hoa participated in the groundbreaking exhibition ‘Uncorked Soul’ in Hong Kong in 1991, along with Dang Xuan Hoa and other major Vietnamese artists. Since 1976, she has been exhibiting in Vietnam and internationally in the United Kingdom and France. Common subjects in Hoa’s paintings include seascapes, landscapes, still lifes and Cheo, a form of Vietnamese opera. Lyrical and expressionistic in nature, ‘Musicians and Lotus’ evokes a romantic ambience.
