Born in Central Java, Indonesia, Entang Wiharso graduated from the Art Institute of Yogyakarta in 1994. Since young, he has enjoyed different kinds of traditional art forms, especially the wooden puppet performances of West Java. As a child, he often made toy puppets out of found materials, and pretended to be a dalang (puppet master), performing his made-up stories while playing with other children. Since the 1990s, he has been based intermittently in the United States. Not surprisingly, his figurative works have narrative elements and often explore the tensions between the tradition and the modern. To the left of the work, a man with the emblem of Superman on his chest is holding a keris. The keris is regarded as a spiritual object and the intensified tones suggest that energy stem from the dagger, flowing into the modern man, developing a separate ghostlike head, which has a sinister smile on it.
