Vu Dung graduated from Hanoi Fine Arts College in 1980 and is a member of Vietnam Association of Plastic Art Works. Painting primarily in oil and lacquer, Dung has participated in exhibitions held in Vietnam, Eastern Europe, France and the United States. In 1998, Dung also participated in the International Artist-in-Residence programme organized by The Griffis Art Center in the United States. Dung’s art often revolves around the theme of human suffering and their thirst for freedom and love, especially that of a woman. Perhaps to show the plight of women in society, in ‘Wife and Husband’ a despondent woman weeps as her husband indulges in his smoking pipe.
