Born in 1929 in Xiamen, China, Lim Yew Kuan migrated to Singapore during the Second World War. A graduate from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1950 and a teacher there for the next seven years, Lim furthered his studies at the Chelsea School of Art in London till 1962. Returning to Singapore in 1963, he became Acting Principal of NAFA when his father Lim Hak Tai, NAFA’s founding principal passed away. In 1980, Lim became NAFA’s Vice Principal.
