Last Supper

Born in Bandung in 1958, Tisna Sanjaya studied graphic art at the Department of Fine Arts and Design in the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and then at the Hochshule fur Bildende Kunste, in Braunschweig, Germany. Sanjaya is one of the few artists in Indonesia who works in the printmaking technique of etching. Perhaps inspired by “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci, Tisna provides the viewer a wider perspective, allowing the viewer to see what happens outside the frame. In front of the long table, a screaming man is trapped in a cage, surrounded by furious and agitated creatures. Above the table, peculiar-looking creatures stare down, as if looking at a spectacle. Even at the long table, the only image of man is in the center, where Jesus is supposed to be. The rest of the table is occupied by demonic-looking creatures.
