Born in 1957 in Solo, Central Java, Anusapati studied at the lnstitut Seni Indonesia and is a Fulbright Scholar at the School of Art and Design, Pratt Institute, in New York from 1988 to 1990. “Time is Running Out” is made from the wood of the indigenous waru tree. The trunk has a raw, unfinished look, and whitened for tonal contrast to the natural wood colour of the spikes and the coloured coiled rope while wood shavings are arranged to counter-balance the line of the horizontal trunk. Anusapati's empathy with indigenous wood is evident through his treatment to achieve the form and feel that harnesses its natural attributes. Yet, the meaning remains ambiguous. At best, one can only conjecture that it is an expression of the artist's personal feelings or thoughts on the dire inevitability of a certain end.
