Born in Manila, Philippines in 1926, Arturo Luz is a Philippine National Artist awardee in visual arts. Trained in fine arts at the University of Santo Tomas School of Fine Arts, he received a scholarship to study arts at the California College of Arts and Craft in Oakland, USA. In 1950, he continued his arts education at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and in 1951, at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris.
