Ren’s bird and flower paintings are noted for their vibrant colours and finely painted forms. He differentiated his style from that of the Qing academic painters. In this painting, using dots, lines, colour masses and spontaneous ink splashes, he created images with confidence and elegance. He was highly competent in capturing fleeting movement of flying birds and contrasting between movement and serenity.
