This is a Malaysian one-cent coin. Bank Negara Malaysia became the sole issuer of currencies in Malaysia on 12 June 1967. On 4 September 1989, the second series of Malaysian coins were issued. Changes included the addition of the Bunga Raya (hibiscus), the national flower of Malaysia, on the obverse and traditional artefacts on the reverse (giant traditional drum on the one-cent coin).
