This squarish, marble screen stand with a zitan frame, known as 'yanshi zuoping', has a motif that resembles a dragon head, a highly-valued motif. Most marble screens are placed on tables in the study as part of the interior decoration, while sometimes serve as a screen against dust that may set on ink stones. It is an object of appreciation in the scholar’s studio, usually placed on the table or on a high table against the wall for decoration.
