This oil pitcher belongs to a collection of ten ritual objects used during daily Hindu worship and festive occasions in temples. This object, along with other ritual items, is presented before the image of a deity by priests during the performance of the 'upacara' (daily prescribed duties). The other ritual objects include food, water, incense, mirror, flywhisk, umbrella, fan and lighted lamps. The image of the god is seen as the embodiment of the deity and thus accorded royal treatment.
