This painting of a butterfly and flowers is by Qi Baishi (1864-1957). One of the most important Chinese artists of the first half of the 20th century, he is also noted for his seal carving. His spontaneous style of painting is seen in his execution of this work. The subject matter is also typical of the artist and reflects his admiration of nature. This painting is signed ‘Qi Huang’.
