Buland Darwaza (‘Great Gate’ in Persian) is the southern entrance of Jāmi Masjid (Great Mosque). The largest gateway in India was built using red sandstone by the Mughal emperor Akbar in 1601 to commemorate his victory over the Sultanate of Gujarat in 1573.
