This teapot of pear-shaped form has a curved spout, angular looped handle and a domed lid. The body is richly decorated on each side with a pink ogival medallion enclosing a pink peony and a phoenix on an orangey-yellow ground with peony sprays. The rim is bordered with the Eight Buddhist Emblems while the base features stylised lotus petals in pink, blue and orange.Teapots were used at weddings to serve 'ayer mata kuching' or longan tea during tea ceremony and other meals. Generally, they were of two sizes - the large cylindrical ones used to serve large numbers of guests or the small globular pots often used in pairs during wedding tea ceremonies when the bride and groom served tea to the elders.
