Peshawar is the administrative centre for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. It is one of the Oldest Living Cities in Asia. The earliest inhabitants in Peshawar were the eastern Iranian tribes of Scythian origin. Originally known as Purushapura meaning ‘city of men’ in Sanskrit, the Kushan king Kanishka relocated the capital from Pushkalvati (the present Charsadda in the Peshawar valley) to Peshawar in the second century CE. After a brief moment of Greek influence, Peshawar was conquest by Arab and its people converted to Muslims.
