The Red Fort is a fort complex constructed in the 17th century by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in Old Delhi, the capital of the Mughals. After the end of the Mughal Empire, the British used the fort as a military camp until India’s independence in 1947. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, and now serves as a popular tourist site and symbol of India’s sovereignty.The Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience) is an ornate pavilion found in the fort. Built with marble and precious stones, the pavilion has gilded pillars decorated with floral carvings and walls painted with motifs of vines, flowers and fruits.This picture was taken by a British policeman during his tour in India.
