Covered box

This covered box, known as 'lahpet-ok' is used for presenting pickled tea and nuts on formal occasions. The cover has very fine incised, floral motifs, which are applied in light pink, green and yellow. A tray inside the box holds six small fan-shaped dishes and a hexagonal central dish.Lacquerware includes a wide range of utensils including water vessels, cosmetic containers, flower vases, food storage and eating utensils. It also serves a variety of important religious functions, from preserving Buddhist manuscripts, to the presentation of food to the monastery.
