Sarong

This cotton sarong with checks of yellow, red and black is woven in the colours of the Sarawak flag. The kepala (or 'head') of the sarong is patterned with vertical bands of dark red, yellow and black transversed with horizontal yellow stripes. The sarong belonged to a group of objects that was recently identified through a receipt found in the old Raffles Museum archives. Issued by director Michael Tweedie, the receipt identifies these objects as being part of an exchange of artefacts between the Sarawak Museum and Raffles Museum in 1952. What artefacts the Raffles Museum gave in return is not known.
