Miniature cabinet

The appeal of this small cabinet is enhanced by the wavy grain of the longyan wood which can be easily seen on its doors. The doors are fitted with rectangular lock-plates and pulls, and open to reveal two rows of shelves and two drawers. The use of longyan wood as well as long, rectangular brass plates and pulls indicates the piece originated from Fujian province.Such cabinets were probably used to store smaller sized scholarly accoutrements such as seals. It is a miniature version of the larger cabinets that were used on the floor. Cabinets and other containers used to store clothing and personal items have always been an integral part of Chinese furniture.
