Skirtcloth

This cotton, batik cloth has a plain weave structure. It is covered with anthropomorphic and geometric motifs in two shades of purple on a light brown ground covered with fine brown crackles. A row of tumpals (triangular motifs) fill the transverse border. Textiles of this type are known as 'kain lepas' , which are unsewn rectangular cloth that is elaborately wrapped around the hips and secured with a knot. It is also known as 'kain panjang" (long cloth) as the length of the fabric is two and half times its width. This type of textile is worn more often in Indonesia than in Malaysia and are worn by men.
