Taiping Lake Gardens in Perak

Originally a rough mining region, Taiping became the centre of British administration in Perak and grew into a prosperous town during the 1880s. Dubbed 'one of the most picturesque in Malaya' by the author of An Illustrated Guide to the Federated Malay States, Taiping's transformation was perhaps best encapsulated by the Taiping Lake Gardens, which was created from mining ponds.
