Lisu men and women carry multicoloured bags. The shoulder bags are made of hand-woven white or unbleached cotton threads and consist of vertical strips of red and various other colours. Work bags have 'red ears' or strips of cloth attached to the sides at the bottom, which represesnt the owner's taste and personality. A young Lisu man's 'courting bag' like this piece, is an elaborate affair with strips of colourful embroidered cloths and threads that suspend from the sides and the bottom of the bag.
