Born in 1978 in the Philippines, Louie Cordero currently lives and works in Manila. He is a recipient of numerous awards including the Ateneo Art Award in 2004, and the Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2006. Among his exhibitions, he participated in the Singapore Biennale in 2011.The installation takes as its starting point a real-life social phenomenon in the Philippines: a spate of killings in the country associated with the singing of Frank Sinatra’s classic song, ‘My Way’. In a country that has felt the strong influence of American popular culture in music and film, Sinatra has proved to be an enduring icon, and his bow-out song has generated heated debates on how it should be sung. These disputes have occasionally resulted in violent fights and deaths, as well as a growing urban legend surrounding the song.
