Court order

This is a court order filed on 27 September 1854 by the Court of Judicature of Prince of Wales' Island, Singapore, and Malacca, concerning the case of Keong Tok Know, who failed to fulfil previous orders filed by the court and as such, the court filed a writ of attachment for contempt and Keong was taken into custody by the Sheriff. This document is part of a collection of legal documents from the 19th and early 20th centuries which provides a glimpse into the work of the notable personalities who left their mark on Singapore’s legal history, and the economic and other transactions undertaken by ordinary immigrants in 19th century Singapore that tell stories of misfortune and indebtedness which would otherwise have disappeared from history.
