This small, concave, silver belt buckle has a wash of gold, and is decorated at the centre with a large flower. Ornamental waist buckles such as this, were worn by both men and women of title when in full dress. The size of the buckles can vary in size as well as in shape. The buckles can be oval or slightly concave, and sometimes they have scalloped edges. Their decorations usually consist of a central medallion surrounded by a combination of blooms, wavy lines, twists and a border, which is either decorated or left plain. Those executed in niello (black metalwork) technique, consists of three tiers and usually has a border of 'fish scales'.
